| Although he's the creative director for Liz Claiborne, this fashion designer started creating his own label when he received a sewing machine from his father at the age of ten. However, the first label we would recognize, Isaac Mizrahi apparel, was introduced many years later in 1987. An immediate success with fashion editors, he received orders from a number of top retailers such as Bloomingdale's, and yet his overwhelming creativity nearly worked against him. His styles changed dramatically from season to season, disappointing customers who sought a unified brand image. Isaac took a short hiatus from fashion design between 1997 and 2002, but in 2003 the high-end designer surprised the fashion world again by licensing exclusively with Target, introducing Isaac Mizrahi shoes and adding a separate specialty couture line by the end of the year. By 2005, his product line has expanded into Isaac Mizrahi bedding, dinnerware, home decor and pet products. Since then, Isaac's popularity has virtually exploded, leading to several different collections under related labels, including exclusive Isaac Mizrahi dresses, mid-range separates, casual wear, and a wide variety of lifestyle products for the home. Surprisingly, Isaac Mizrahi handbags were among the last collections to enter the scene, further demonstrating that Isaac follows his creative muse rather than bowing to the standard of fashion.
