| Klaus Obermeyer grew up in Germany on a farm where his family raised animals, vegetables and crops. Nothing went unused; from a very young age Klaus learned the value of making use of the resources the farm generated so that nothing was wasted. Traveling to the U.S. in 1947, Klaus settled in Aspen, Colorado. Klaus, an avid Bavarian Alps mountaineer, continued his outdoor pursuits climbing in the summers and teaching skiing on Aspen Mountain during the winters. Klaus founded the Obermeyer clothing company over sixty years ago. His entrepreneurial spirit drove him to use his engineering background along with his love of snow sports to create a technically responsible line of winter clothing. Obermeyer clothing is created to encourage a well-balanced life. The company has remained a family run, privately held company based in Aspen, Colorado. There is an active goal of designing and producing sustainable and earth-friendly products. The forward-thinking designers are embracing new technologies as well as new ideas. Obermeyer offers attire for both men and women. Obermeyer jackets and outerwear as well as Obermeyer pants and Obermeyer sweaters make up the lion share of the brand. The Leighton Jacket for women is a highly stylized ski jacket that offers a flattering shape for when you hit the slopes.
