| The Shulton Company, original producer of Old Spice, was founded in 1934 by William Lightfoot Schultz. The first Old Spice product was a fragrance called Early American Old Spice for women, introduced in 1937. Old Spice for men followed in 1938. The early men's products were dominated by shaving soap and Old Spice aftershave, for which sailing ships, clipper ships in particular, were used as a trademark. After Procter & Gamble purchased Old Spice in 1990, the clipper ships were replaced by personal yachts in 1992. As is often the case, Procter & Gamble also significantly expanded the brand. Today, Old Spice colognes for men is joined by a wider variety of products, including Old Spice deodorants as well as a full line of Old Spice body soaps. Old Spice body sprays are the most recent addition, and although the Classic Old Spice scent remains popular, it has been joined by 16 additional varieties.
