Johann Pfaltzgraff, a German potter born in the early 1800's, emigrated to the United States with his family in the 1830's to establish and grow a pottery business. They started out modestly on a twenty-one acre homestead in York County, Pennsylvania. As his family grew, he taught his 5 sons the trade and the business grew steadily. The brand has remained in York, Pennsylvania ever since.

In 2005, Pfaltzgraff joined Lifetime Brands, Inc., a leading designer, developer and marketer of home products. By joining Lifetime Brands, Pfaltgraff can also offers kitchen tools, flatware, drinkware and dinnerware.
