Well-known for their invention of instant photography, Polaroid today has entered the digital age and manufactures consumer electronics that produce clear and colorful pictures on Polaroid cameras, televisions, camcorders, photo frames and printers. The classic Polaroid 300 Instant Camera is still available and has been modernized to be lighter and less bulky than its predecessor. Polaroid also makes a digital camera that prints instant pictures, called the Polaroid Pogo Instant Digital Camera.
Edwin Land started the company in the 1920s to produce inventions created by scientific research. His interest lied in polarization so he created a prototype of a synthetic polarizer which was patented in 1934. Kodak was their first major company order that helped catapult the company. The U.S government contracted Polaroid to manufacture many types of products during WWII and by 1948 instant photography became the company's claim to fame.
The Polaroid Corporation invented the Polaroid, a type of synthetic plastic sheet that polarizes light. The Polaroid is used in their glare reducing polarized lenses in their eyewear line, and the Polaroid concept was used in the development of the camera and instant film.
Many of those who had Polaroid cameras when they were at their height of popularity from the 1960s to 1980s never lost their love of the instant film camera. Polaroid has gained its popularity back with the release of their instant digital camera among many other products.
