Radio Flyer

About Radio Flyer

If you've never seen the bright red Radio Flyer wagon, you've missed out on a piece of American history and childhood nostalgia. In 1917, Venice-born Antonio Pasin purchased some used wood-working equipment and rented a one-room workshop, creating little wagons by night and selling them during the day. His little company was called the Liberty Coaster Company for the Statue of Liberty. His first steel wagon was created in the 1930s, named for Mr. Pasin's fascination with radio and flight, the original Radio Flyer. During the 1940s, the company expanded to create a quality line of Radio Flyer ride-on toys including Radio Flyer scooters. Popularity soared with the Baby Boom, and in 1957 the company introduced a line of garden carts with two side wheels and a resting bracket, a revolutionary and durable design in heavy steel which could carry larger loads into smaller spaces. At the same time, Radio Flyer enjoyed its first specially licensed wagons with Walt Disney's Davy Crockett and Mickey Mouse Club themes.

The sixties brought about another breakthrough when Radio Flyer invented the baby walker, a fun way for toddlers to practice walking while they pushed a small cart to hold their toys. In the 1970s, their cleverly designed Motocross Bike marked the introduction of Radio Flyer tricycles with a wide wheel base, safer spoke-less wheels and hand grips. The 1980s saw diversification as Radio Flyer entered the adult market with outdoor furniture and industrial-grade wheelbarrows, providing the same durable construction for the kids who had grown up loving the company's ride-on toys. In the 1990s, Antonio Pasin's grandchildren took the Radio Flyer helm, maintaining their grandfather's dedication to hardwood and steel construction as Radio Flyer rocking toys and other ride-on toys were further expanded. Though you will find a few plastic items today, almost every product uses the same standards of safety, durability and fun design that made Radio Flyer an American tradition.
