About Reef

Fernando and Santiago Santi Aguerre, brothers from Argentina, created Reef sandals in 1984 in an effort to developed a shoe style which worked well with their surfing lifestyle. Reef flip flops are less structured than conventional sandals, offering more creative styles in a surprisingly durable design. At the core of Reef's approach is their exotic roots in Argentina's surf spots and the inherent sensuality of the beach, as their early controversial advertisements featuring the beautiful woman in Reef bikinis, Reef one-piece suits and other swimwear that no one could identify, Miss Reef, whose face was always hidden but who intrigued readers and viewers and captured their customers' imaginations.

Reef launched their men's apparel collection in 2003 with Reef board shorts and Reef t-shirts, also expanding their main footwear line to include Reef sport sandals. They were purchased by VF Corporation in 2005 (which also owns the Vans, Nautica, The North Face and JanSport brands, as well as top denim labels like Lee, Rider and Wrangler), and introduced a full line of women's swimwear and apparel in 2008. This dramatically broadened their selection, adding Reef bikini halter tops and Reef bikini bottoms in an array of styles and cuts to new items like Reef sundresses, Reef cover-up and, as well as short, mini dresses and skirts. Despite all the changes to the company over the past twenty-five years, the people at Reef are still surfers at heart, and their styles always reflect this carefree, sensual, happy approach to life.
