About Revere

You'll rarely find a brand with a greater presence in American history than Revere. Paul Revere founded the Revere Copper Company in 1801, which created cast bolts, spikes and nails for shipyards, then cannon for the military. The company evolved into Copper and Brass, Inc. after a merger with James Davis & Son of the Boston Brass Foundry in 1828. Further mergers took place between 1891 through 1929, and the company went through several name changes, finally settling on one which honored the founder of the American copper industry with Revere Copper and Brass. Between 1931 and 1938, the company worked out a process to develop Revere cookware, learning that stainless steel resisted corrosion and as well as everyday wear and tear, but that copper was better for evenly conducting heat and maintaining a constant temperature. W. Archibald Welden perfected the design of Revere Ware copper-clad stainless steel cookware by adding cool Bakelite handles using a rivet-free construction process, and Revere cookware sets were released to the public in 1939.

In 1974, several stages of fine-tuning led to a variety of changes; dutch ovens, for example, were replaced with lighter-weight, covered Revere sauce pans. Revere coffee and tea serveware temporarily stopped production to make room for two distinct lines - the classic Copper Clad line, and a less expensive collection made entirely from stainless steel. In 1988, the company was sold to Corning, another giant in the cooking and bakeware industry, although the Revere Ware name remained in place. From 1990 through 1996, eight new lines of cookware including Revere skillets, Revere tea kettles and others were introduced. Eventually, both Revere and Corning became part of the World Kitchen, Inc. family, which also includes the Pyrex and Visions cookware brands. Still weathering changes in business, the quality and ingenuity associated with Revere has continued to grow, and today's cookware is just as durable and easy to use as the originals.
