| Taking the brand's title from rapper and hip-hop record producer Sean Combs' first and middle names, Sean John apparel was launched in 1998. As of late 2010, the collection is exclusive to Macy's, as well as the brand's own website. The company has already won a Menswear Designer of the Year award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, and Sean's personal involvement with the development of the company has led to excellent working conditions for his employees, as well as accountability for the materials used in apparel production. Sean describes his style in three words: Swagger. Timeless. Diverse, and this aptly describes his clothing collection as well. Sean has created a full lifestyle brand, including an iconic statement piece launched in 2008, the Sean John fragrance line, I Am King, which is dedicated to President Barack Obama, Muhammad Ali and Martin Luther King. All collections fall into the low- to mid-priced ranges, including the more formal selections such as 100% silk ties and beautifully-made suits. While there is a tendency toward urban styles in his casual wear, in fact Sean John tops, shorts, sweaters and even his loose-fit jeans feature classic, clean cuts, making the collection an excellent choice for men who prefer traditional styles, as well. The brand has expanded to offers styles for boys, big and tall men's sizes, and women, the latter if which often emphasize a woman's curves but work well with potential flaws; tunic-style t-shirts, tailored jackets and hoodies, and softly flowing satin jumpsuits best indicate the company's sharp eye for the female physique.
