About Seiko

A technology pioneer. A Hollywood icon. A collector's item. Not bad for an item more commonly known as a simple wristwatch. Seiko watches, first introduced in 1924, are known worldwide for their quality and workmanship. The Japanese company was aptly named for the word Seiko and its three meanings: exquisite, minute, and success.

Seiko began in Japan in 1881 as a watch and jewelry company. Almost a hundred years later, the company created the very first quartz watch, called the Astron. A first in watch production history, the revolutionary quartz timepiece cost almost the same amount as a medium-sized car!

If you're a movie buff, Seiko watches may look familiar: Roger Moore's James Bond wore numerous versions in the 007 movies in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Matt Damon sported a Seiko watch as Jason Bourne in The Bourne Identity trilogy.

All Seiko wristwatches are manufactured entirely in house, right down to the tiniest details including oils used to lubricate the mechanisms, and luminous compounds that are used on the hands and dials. The fine craftsmanship makes Seiko timepieces collector's items, with some limited editions going for as much as $500,000. The brand manufactures a broad ranges of styles and includes Seiko mechanical, Seiko automatic, shock resistant, water resistant and quartz varieties.

Though best known for its iconic watches, Seiko also manufactures Seiko clocks, electronic devices and music equipment including digital synthesizers, metronomes and tuning devices.
