About Sharp

Sharp's founder Tokuji Hayakawa began his company with the simple invention of a snap belt buckle in 1912, followed by the ever-popular Ever-Sharp mechanical pencil three years later. With the phrase: Make products that others want to imitate as his company's motto, Hayakawa has pushed his company to be on the cutting edge of technology and in doing so, changing the lives of people around the world. Developing crystal radio sets in Japan both before and after World War II, Sharp moved to commercially producing television sets in the 1950s.

Sharp established the Sharp Manufacturing Company of America in 1979 to expand its market base in the United States, followed by the opening of Sharp Laboratories of America in 1995, in order to capitalize on American ingenuity and research. In turn this has led to such inventions are Sharp microwave ovens and Sharp ranges, ovens & cooktops. More advanced and innovative appliances have since followed, such as Sharp knife sharpening cutlery tool.

Not all Sharp's products relate to electronics, but other contemporary needs such as pillowcases and shams, juicers, air conditioners and vacuums. Sharp continues to strive to be the trusted leader of everyday products throughout the world.
