Headquartered in Streetsboro, Ohio, the Step2 Company, LLC, is the largest American manufacturer of preschool and toddler Step2 toys as well as the world's largest rotational molder of plastics. Previously, Thomas G. Murdough Jr. had founded Little Tykes toy company in 1969 in Aurora, Ohio, before selling it to Rubbermaid in 1984. After a five-year period there as president and general manager, he founded a new toy company, Step2, in 1991 with just five employees before growing to the current number of over 800. Murdough pioneered the use of rotational molding in consumer products.
With two large American plants in northern Ohio, Step2 products are distributed to select retailers throughout the United States, Canada and over 70 other countries. Step2 makes durable children's toys and Home & Garden products, including Step2 play kitchens, outdoor toy sets, Step2 wagons, Step2 playhouses, dollhouses, activity desks, swing sets, forts, ride-ons, climbers and kids' furniture.
Step2 toys are made of durable plastic with safety as a first concern. Children can participate in cooking activities with stoves, ranges, refrigerators, pots, pans and other cooking utensils. Some toys interact with children during play. For example, stoves actually make a sizzling sound. Children can exercise their imaginations and creativity with Step2 toys.
