About Vera Wang

Vera Ellen Wang was born and raised in New York, and earned a degree in art history from Sarah Lawrence College. After several years as a fashion editor at Vogue magazine, Vera joined Ralph Lauren as a design director in 1985, then opened her own salon in 1990 in New York, featuring her iconic wedding dresses. As a former figure skater herself, Vera has also designed costumes for competitive figure skaters like Nancy Kerrigan and Michelle Kwan. Over the years, Vera has expanded her brand through the fragrances used in Vera Wang body lotions and creams as well as Vera Wang perfumes, jewelry collections such as necklaces and pendants, shoes, Vera Wang sunglasses Vera Wang sunglasses, and a house ware collection which features coil mattresses by Serta, as well as an elegant selection of Vera Wang dinnerware, drink ware, serving bowls and platters launched in 2002.

Her more moderately-priced line, called Simply Vera but often listing her entire name on the label, includes extremely feminine designs in unusually soft fabric blends, often featuring scallops, ruffles and other lovely details. The collection varies from semi-casual styles like blouses, shirts and tops to more elegant baby doll tops and Vera Wang dresses. Her sleepwear line is particularly noteworthy; bows, lace edges and delicate prints embellish rayon and spandex blended nightgowns and pajama sets for soft, flattering, touchable styles.
