Ashwagandha, or Withania somnifera, is an evergreen shrub with small, reddish-orange fruit. It has been used for centuries in India; hence its nickname, “Indian ginseng.” Ashwagandha is one of many adaptogenic herbs that are suggested to support the body’s response to physiological and psychological stress. One benefit that ashwagandha is known for is its ability to support healthy cortisol levels.*

Melissa officinalis, or lemon balm, is a perennial, lemon-scented herb native to mountainous areas of southern Europe and North Africa. Clinical studies have shown lemon balm to support calm, alertness and sleep quality. Lemon balm contains citronellal, neral and geranial monoterpenoid aldehydes, flavonoids, and polyphenolic compounds including rosmarinic acid, and monoterpene glycosides, all of which may contribute to the support it offers.

CBD, short for “cannabidiol,” is a chemical compound, or cannabinoid, from the botanical source Cannabis sativa. More than 80 cannabinoids have been identified from the cannabis plant, one of which is the commonly known delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). THC is the major psychoactive compound of cannabis, and it is not to be confused with CBD, which is a non-psychoactive constituent, meaning CBD does not have mind-altering effects. CBD is available in multiple forms, including full-spectrum and isolates.

L-theanine is a major amino acid found in green tea and some mushrooms, historically used for its relaxing effects. It is believed that L-theanine may work by promoting normal levels of the neurotransmitters GABA (Gamma Amino Butyric Acid), serotonin and dopamine in the central nervous system. Theanine has shown to promote a “state of alert relaxation.”
