The Types of Joints in the Human Body
A joint, quite simply, is the point where two bones connect. There are three main types of joints, differentiated by their structure, their function, and how they’re connected.
Fibrous Joints. In fibrous joints, bones are held together by a ligament. The point where your teeth meet their sockets is one example.
Cartilaginous Joints. Cartilaginous joints hold bones together with, you guessed it, cartilage. These joints connect two articulating bones, and the cartilage tissue prevents friction and grinding. The vertebrae that make up your spinal cord are connected by cartilaginous joints.
