The Vitamin E Family: Tocopherols and Tocotrienols
What are the main sources of vitamin E? Vitamin E encompasses a family of eight naturally occurring compounds, each distinct in its structure and function. The first discovered natural form of vitamin E, alpha tocopherol, is the most studied, and for a long time, was thought to be the most important. In actuality, the other forms of vitamin E are also essential. The eight compounds in the vitamin E family are broken into two groups: four tocopherols and four tocotrienols.
