What is Selenium? Exploring the Benefits of Selenium
Selenium is an antioxidant and antioxidants help maintain cellular health by protecting the body from free radicals. Free radicals are unstable atoms that try to stabilize themselves by latching onto stable atoms. This process is known as oxidative stress, and it creates a domino effect, as each stable atom paired with a free radical becomes unstable itself, and creates more free radicals in turn.* 
Free radicals are unavoidable, and they occur naturally as a result of exercise, stress, or as a byproduct of our body’s normal metabolic processes. Antioxidants present in the body combat free radicals and support cellular integrity. 
Selenium enhances the antioxidant properties of vitamin E. It is also a component of an important antioxidant enzyme called glutathione peroxidase.*
